Create a Moving Home Checklist

It is important that you create a list of everything you need to do as soon as you know that you are moving. Because there is so much to do and because it is so easy to forget something if you do not create a checklist, you are not going to remember to do everything. So, sit down and write an exhaustive list. It may even be a good idea to download one and add to it the individual aspects of your move. You need to include things such as calls to the removal firms, getting quotes, booking a date, remembering to call all your utility firms to get the address changes, creating a mail redirect, etc. The more detailed the list and the better organised you are, the less stressful you will find it.

The Paperwork

You will find the paperwork aspect of moving a lot easier with your checklist at hand. You will be able to see plained what needs to be done and what has been done. You will need to let your utility firm know you are moving; then on the day of the move, take meter reads and then connect them for the final bill. Alternatively, if you are using them at the new place, you will need to tell them the old and new reads. The utility form will not close your direct debit down unless they know you have moved. There is the risk of you ending up paying for two houses if you don’t do this, so it’s important. Other things include informing your landlord, obviously, sorting out your mail, and closing down other accounts you may have open at your old address. Each move is different, so it depends on your circumstance.

Declutter and Pack

If you want the move to be smooth, you have to start decluttering as early as you can. If you are moving to a smaller place, it may be an idea to get self storage units at Easy store, for example. Having storage unit may make it far easier, as you won’t have to get rid of everything until you decide for sure you don’t need it. This can ease the emotional side. You also need to start packing early too, using the right packing materials.
