Depending on your interests and the way you learn, there are a number of ways you can change your career. You could work with an English Tutor to enhance your knowledge of the language, alternatively, you could sign up for some evening classes. If you don’t want to study, volunteering can be a great way to get your foot in the door.

Below we look into three different ways of changing your career.

Sign up for online courses

With technology having advanced hugely over the years, now you can study an online course from the comfort of your own home. The prices of online courses differ depending on the company you choose to do the course with – some are even free. This gives you the chance to study at your own pace and choose from a broad range of courses, more than you may have ever been offered when you were learning at school. Try a course and see what you think about it. If you complete it and decide not to pursue a career in it, it’s still really good for your own self-development.

Volunteer at a local company

If you don’t want to go down the educational route and study an online course to help change your career, an alternative method is to volunteer. During the weekends and evenings – essentially your free time – why don’t you contact some local companies that you are interested in and see if you can volunteer for them? By volunteering you can get some hands-on experience on what it’s like to work for a company in the new industry you are interested in. After volunteering for a few months, you will have learnt many new skills and hopefully, a position comes up that you can apply for and get. If one doesn’t open for the company you are volunteering in, you may find another appears for a different company which you can get.

Sign up to open university

Have you considered an open university before? It’s a big commitment but could help you change your career and move into an industry that requires a specific amount of knowledge. Certain industries like being a doctor, a teacher or a psychologist require a degree in order for you to practise. By signing up for an open university, you can study for a degree in your spare time instead of having to do it daily. Yes, this may mean you have to study over a number of years, however, this can be a big step to help you change your career.
