Theme it.

The first thing that you should be doing is theming the room as much as you can. Think about the kind of things that you know your child likes, and then choose one to turn into a theme for the bedroom. For example, if you know that your child loves cars, why not go for a cars theme? You can get some pretty awesome stuff for a car bedroom! Or, perhaps your child is more into Disney and princesses, which we can guarantee you is a lot of fun to make. Creating a theme can be really exciting and you can have a lot of fun doing it, especially if it’s something that you also like. Essentially, you end up creating the room that you always wanted but never had.

Ask for their input!

Have you thought about asking your child for their input? It’s going go be their room when you are finished, and they are the ones who need to like it. As such, you should be asking for their opinion on the things that you are hoping to do with the space. It might be the case that you find out they have a better preference than the one you thought which is okay, you don’t always need to know everything.

When they are giving their input, make sure that you are managing expectations. There are going to be some things that they request that either aren’t possible, or simply aren’t happening. Ensure that you are honest with them and tell them that this is the case, just so they don’t get excited and start hoping for something specific.

Keep It Comfy.

It’s important that the room is comfortable while also looking good. You don’t want your kids to be uncomfortable when it comes time to go to bed, which is the entire point of the room in the first place. As such, you should invest in a mattress that is comfortable for them to sleep on, and them look at quality bedding from somewhere like Richard Haworth in order to ensure their comfort. Check the bed yourself, and then ask your child what they think. Try to remember that people have difference preferences when it comes to sleeping, and while they might think something is comfortable, you might not. But, that’s okay because you are not the one that it is intended for. As long as your kid is comfy, that is all that matters.

PLENTY OF STORAGE.

The final thing that we are going to mention is that you are going to need plenty of storage. Why? Because your kid likely has a lot of toys and you don’t want them cluttering up your living room, or their bedroom. You want to be able to walk around in your home without standing on various toys that belong to your little one. As such, you should look into storage options for your kids room. Make sure that they have a wardrobe for all of their clothes, and then you need a toy box for toys. You should also invest in some drawers and shelves just for some extra storage space.

If you think that you need more storage, it might have to be outside of the room. Sometimes, there isn’t enough space to store everything in one room, and if this is the case, then find somewhere else for it so that there’s no so much clutter!
