Children’s Books about the Moon
With the harvest moon approaching, and my very large stack of books about the moon sat in front of me, it inspired me to write a collection for you all, in case you’re looking for some inspiration. Some of them will be more educational, but mostly they’re children’s story/picture books that make for a perfect addition to your children’s moon projects or interests.
A favourite in our house is A Big Mooncake for Little Star (by Grace Lin), about a cheeky, little girl who sneakily takes bits of a mooncake her mother made. Gradually you see the different phases of the moon as she is munching away. It’s clever, and my 3rd daughter thinks it’s hilarious!
We do also definitely appreciate some beautiful artwork accompanying informational books too, like in Planetarium and Balloon to the Moon. Also, Slow Down by Rachel Williams has a glorious, double page spread, all about the moon. It’s worth checking out!
I’m not sure why, but children’s books about the moon are just instantly more magical. Is that because the moon itself is magical? Perhaps!
Check out our list of books about/featuring the moon, and let us know if you have any or try any!

Books are such a great way to celebrate or really indulge in a topic you’re learning about. For many, the moon is celebrated at numerous points throughout the year, so having children’s books about the moon around can be really useful!
